China vs The Weather

Monday, March 31st, 2008

Here’s a strange headline: China Seeks to Control Olympics Weather With AA Guns, Rocket Launchers

And it’s serious. China is actually deplying Anti-Aircraft emplpacements, rocket launchers and various chemicals to try and keep it from raining during the olympics in Beijing that will be help in August. Go read the article because I wouldn’t believe this either if I hadn’t read it.

They may not admit it, but I would bet dollars to dumplings that they will have caches of standard munitions within easy reach of each of these ‘weather controlling’ weapons. You know, just in case someone tries to fly a plane into their weird Bird’s Nest stadium.

I’m not sure wether to be amazed at their ingenuity or dumbfounded by their bizarre display of military.

What do you think?

Sunday night and gassy

Sunday, March 30th, 2008

I found a red Velcro strap behind my computer this afternoon. I have no idea where it would have came from and I’ve never had Velcro straps for my cables before. Which reminds me: locals don’t know what Velcro is. They call it ‘magic tape’ in English and I have no idea what they call it in Cantonese. Actually I did, but I forgot. Not exactly something that comes up often in conversation.

There will be a new comic up tomorrow on schedule (or shed-yule as the Brits here would say) over at A Little Scary. Still plugging along and getting some good feedback so far on that. If you haven’t taken a moment to have a look, please do and let me know what you think.

Burrito (our newest pet) knocked a bunch of stuff of this goofy cabinet/drawer thing that Muse got to go next to the door. My camera was in with that stuff. I know he wasn’t targeting the camera as a malicious act (well he could have been, he IS a cat) but it still pisses me off. Seems like it works, but well have to see if it still takes good pictures.

That’s all then. For those of you in the States, enjoy your Sunday. I’ll be off to bed soon and dreading work in the morning.

For Muse. Because she smells bacon for no apparent reason.

No FFAF here

Friday, March 28th, 2008

There are a lot of sites doing Free For All Friday (FFAF) today.  I’m guessing it’s a last Friday of the month kind of thing.  Here’s a few sites that I know of that are allowing guest posts today:

hello! Yoshi
Therapy in the Making
Pandora’s Box
Kat Scratch Fever (supposedly… but I haven’t seen it yet)

Oh, and here’s a little caterpillar —>   ?qqqqqqqq>

Yeah, it’s Friday.  I’ve got nothing else.  Have a good weekend!

Warhammer MMORPG

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

Although I would really prefer a Warhammer 40K MMORPG be created for my entertainment, I’m not above being interested in the alternate universe of Warhammer Fantasy.  It’s not as interesting to me but at least it’s something.  The online game version, which has been in development for a very long time now, has been shaping up to be a pretty involved game.  I’m still not sure how they will stick to some of the core conventions of the Warhammer table top games but maybe they won’t need to.

Some say that this is looking a lot like World of Warcraft but that is really unfair and untrue since Warhammer has been out for at least 20 years longer than Warcraft.  Warcraft owes a hell of a lot to the Warhammer games in it’s races and designs.  However now it looks like Warhammer is taking at least one queue from Blizzard.  They are releasing a very cool looking collector’s edition of the game that is now available for pre-orders.  Considering I bought a collectors edition box set for both releases of World of Warcraft so far, I am definitely their target audience here.

Yes this version will cost a lot more and no it’s not really worth it in the long run but dammit if I am going to buy this game I don’t want it unless I can have the collector’s edition.  I am a sucker for cool marketing and this just looks awesome.  Add to that the requisite exclusive in-game content and I’m sold.  Yeah I know.  It’s a sickness….
