Still in the States

We just got back from “the country” visiting Muse’s family where Internet access is still pretty much an unknown service.  No contact with the rest of the world for five days.  Talk about feeling isolated.  I like the woods but no Internet access is a horrible thing.

However, you can shoot things in the woods, so I did some target practice with Muse’s Dad’s .45 six shooter and his 9mm at some boxes that used to have Christmas gifts in them.  I hit the targets more often than not.  You have to keep up your zombie survival skills, you know.

We have eaten more since we’ve been back in  the states than we can possibly process within normal human limits.  Especially since our bodies are used to Hong Kong foods and meals now.

Well its almost bed time so that’s all the updates for now.  Muse is feeling a little sick so she needs some rest.

Merry “belated” Christmas

Merry Christmas and/or Happy Holidays to everyone.  Yes I know it’s all technically over right now but we haven’t gone to bed yet so it’s kinda like it’s still Christmas.

And we’re

leeeaaavin’ on a jet plane
we do know when we’ll be back again

OK never mind.  But check out my wife’s angelic voice over on her site with her Christmas caroling. The crappy microphone I have just doesn’t do her talent justice.  Your loss.  Sorry.

We are packed and we are less than an hour till ‘go time’.

Happy Holidays in case I don’t make it to a PC before Christmas.

I seem to be normal

HAHAHAHA!  Yeah right.  OK but at least my stomach is back to normal.  I’ve been eating real food for the past two days.  Real food…  make that any food really.

Anyway, just thought I’d mention that as I try and rush out the door from work here so I can go home and pack.  We leave tomorrow afternoon for our holiday in the States and I’ve been so sick (and busy) that we haven’t even begun to pack.  Or at least this part of ‘we’ hasn’t.

Well I’m off.  In many ways I suppose.

Still sick and still have to work

I’m still sick.  I still have to work.  And Burrito the cat got his little protective cone collar put back on last night because of a complication with his tail so all the animals kept us up all night long.  Because they are terrified of a kitty with a lampshade around it’s head.  So I can add no sleep to the above because of the animals and because I would get so thirsty I would wake up for a drink.

I felt like I was drunk this morning between the medication, lack of food and lack of sleep.  And I’ll be working a double shift today while we get all the servers backed up, mailboxes moved to Tokyo and shut down all the equipment.  Then I need to take all the ISP equipment and our router over to the new office.  It’s going to be a very long day.

Wrong time to be sick

It’s Monday morning and tomorrow is the office move.  And I’ve been sick since Sunday morning.

It started yesterday after I had some cereal.  First came the diarrhea and then the lightheadedness.  I laid down to read and after a while I started to get very very cold.  And I know it wasn’t cold.  Once I started shivering and my teeth began chattering I put on my favorite hooded sweatshirt, pulled up the hood and crawled under the blankets.  I slept for a while and then the stonach cramps started.

Muse went out and picked me up some McDonalds since I figured that would be bland enough.  Sadly I got really hungry between the time she left and the time she returned.  I threw up and shit out most of my dinner and the remaining bits caused me no end of pain the rest of the night and morning.

I went to the Medical Center on my way to work.  I told him all the above and he told me it was just stomach virus and nothing serious.  He gave me pills for the stomach cramps and some others for the nausea.  I also got some packets to mix with liquid to rehydrate.  Every time I drank water the cramps got worse so I am definitely dehydrated.  Stuff tastes like ass too.  But no matter how much I drink, I’m still dying of thirst.

I’m going to try and get some things done here and hopefully I can leave a little early if I need to.  I have a 12+ hour day looming ahead of me tomorrow and I need to bring my ‘A-game’ or at the very least my ‘B-game’….

Glow-In-The-Dark Pussy (cats)

Here’s something that you might not hear about back in the States. In this morning’s edition of The Standard (Hong Kong’s only free daily English newspaper) was this exciting article:

glow in the dark cats

So in the future, kids won’t go out and try and catch fireflys in the fields after sunset. No. In the future we can watch for glowing cats chasing fireflys after sunset. And be very afraid of what science will create next.

I don’t know about you, but I would make an exception to the “no more pets” rule if we could get one of these monstrosities of nature. They sound fun.

Someone is watching me

I have a lot of big projects going on this week and next before we head home for the Christmas holidays. So I was able to get a guy from our home office to come help me out for two weeks before he went to visit family and friends here in Hong Kong. Which is awesome because I’ve needed help for a while and especially during the upcoming office move next week.

The other side of this situation is that because we are out of space, he’s sitting at my little work bench/desk behind my desk so it’s kind of crammed. And worse yet, he can see everything I do. Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t have a ton of time to goof off or anything so it’s not that. However, when I do catch a break I tend to browse the news and write my posts for this website. But with someone else there I can’t do write. He could care less what I do I’m sure but it’s not that.

I hate it when people watch what I type while I’m typing. There I said it.

I have no idea why. It’s completely irrational. But it just irritates the piss out of me if someone starts reading my screen while I’m typing. So much so that I usually just have to stop typing altogether for a bit. Even my wife has experienced this whether she was consciously aware of it or not. Even now, I’ve been at my computer for the past hour or two with her sitting next to me at hers and it wasn’t until just a few minutes ago when she left the room that I brought up my web site and started typing this post. All while she’s off somewhere else.

Shh… here she comes. Make like you’re doing something else.

OK she didn’t come in. I feel like I’m hiding something from her by not typing around her but it’s nothing like that at all. I have no idea why I feel that way and no idea how not to feel that way. This is why most of my blog posts and my writing on my stories gets done while I’m in the privacy of my office at work. During my breaks of course.

Anybody else have this problem? Or something like it that you’d like to share?

I have nothing to say to you

Seriously.  I don’t have anything to say to you right now.  I’m not kidding.  Why are you still reading this post?  What are you deaf…  ermm…  blind?  Nada, nothing, zero, zilch.  Go away now.  Come back tomorrow I may have something for you then.

The Knee Rebellion

Hong Kong is a walking city.  I’ve done more walking here in Hong Kong then I probably have in my entire life up to the move.  So it worried me when I started getting this odd clicking sound in my left knee a few weeks ago on my 15 minute walk from the ferry piers to my Soho/Central offices.  But like a good and predictable human I complained about it for a day or two and then got used to it.

But today?  Today’s a different story.  Today my knee hurts.  I was able to pop it once and it feels a bit better but it still hurts.  And I need to go walk to lunch and back and then downhill to the fairy and everything else.  If it stays the same or gets worse, it will make getting to the new office - which is farther away - pretty difficult.  I may have to setup an appointment with the physiotherapist that Muse has been seeing to see if they can stick needles in me till the pain goes away.  It sounds wrong but I know it works.

edit: Long walk to lunch.  Hurts.
