Hong Kong Batman update

A news broadcast last night on a Chinese news channel said that the crew were testing locations even closer to my office up to and including the front of our building.  Holy crap, Batman!  My co-worker told me about this as I couldn’t have understood it even if I’d seen it.  Additionally she told me she saw one of the producers from the newscast working with a camera underneath the escalator less than one block from our office today.

An official notice was in the paper yesterday saying that part of Queens Road Central between Pottinger Street and another street nearby would be closed on Monday morning between midnight and 6am for filming.  This was according to the official permit that was given to the movie crew.  It also listed about 12 bus routes that would have to re-routed during that time period.  It’s a very major area.

In today’s papers, there is a request in to the city of Hong Kong to keep the lights running on all the buildings on both sides of the harbor running over a 61 hour period for filming.  Hong Kong has a beautifully lit skyline on both the island and Kowloon sides of the harbor and they want to capture that in the movie.  Environmentalists are rightfully saying that this is a waste but they are missing the bigger picture on this.  Millions of people all over the world will see this movie.  That’s a good reason to keep Hong Kong looking it’s best during filming to increase tourism later on.  Normally most of the display lights are shut down around 11pm each night.  I hope they are left on for this.
