Ewwww. I hope the seafood served in Hong Kong doesn't come from anywhere near the bay.

There should be no denial of a pollution problem. Ocean or lake water near any city that large and populated is guaranteed to have pollution problems no matter what people say. Would you swim in the Hudson or East Rivers surrounding Manhattan? I wouldn't. And the waters in San Francisco Bay aren't considered clean either. Lots of people mean lots of toilets and chemicals and trash in the streets, which all drain to the sea. It sucks, but it's reality.

I wasn't questioning the pollution. I've been here for the past month and I've seen some bad days of smog. And visiting mainland China, the situation is atrocious. All the waterways are literally filled with garbage. In fact, I watch people unashamedly dumping buckets of trash directly into canals. Nasty.

I was just hoping the stuff about the stunt being canceled was a fabrication and maybe that particular stunt was never planned in the first place. The report was based on anonymous sources and it seems like someone may be using Batman's high profile to draw attention to the pollution problem (my conspiracy theory). The story has quickly spread worldwide about Batman vs. Hong Kong pollution. You'd think they'd test the water before sending out all those notices to Wan Chai residents about the C-130 flyovers instead of a couple days before filming. Still no word from the official camp.

Oh I can guarantee you that the pollution in Hong Kong is no fabrication. The air and water quality are serious concerns here. Some days are pretty clear but other days you can't even see through the haze to the other side of the harbor. So I have no doubt that they found some pretty nasty stuff in the water here. With some exceptions, people just aren't as environmentally concerned in China as they are in the States.

I'm also desperately trying to spot some Batman action. I'm in Hong Kong on vacation but unfortunately I leave on Thursday. After scouring over all sorts of news stories (variations on the same information), I think the best I can hope for is catching the fly-over of the C-130... though it's unclear after canceling that stunt whether using the C-130 was scrapped altogether. If it does happen, supposedly between 3pm and 7pm today through Friday they'll be flying low over downtown with the C-130.

Watch out here: http://www.batman-on-film.com/batmovienews.html
for more updated news, but they're based in Texas it seems and rely on people sending in reports. Most recently they confirmed that Christopher Nolan will be in Hong Kong to oversee filming.

If you hear any news, I'm keeping an eye on your blog. :)
You seem to be the only one actually in Hong Kong updating anything besides that pollution story. Good luck!
